In the early 2000s, a group of female artists known as the River City Girls formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band consisted of vocalist/guitarist Allison Shearmur, drummer Josie Gaynor, bassist Jenny Lewis, and keyboardist Carrie Brownstein. In 2003, the group released their self-titled debut album which quickly garnered them a following amongst music fans worldwide.

The River City Girls’ secret boss was none other than legendary producer/singer/songwriter Linda Perry. Perry had worked with the band prior to their debut album release and she recognized their talent; consequently, she helped support and guide the young girls throughout their career.
