At this time of the year, nature is at its most vibrant and uplifting. Taking a walk in the woodlands or in the countryside is a wonderful thing to do in late spring and early summer, as there is so much beauty everywhere you look!
Walking at this time of the year is a real feast for the senses and there is so much beautiful countryside to be explored. Here are some of the things that you can enjoy when getting out in nature at this time of the year…
Birdsong – The dawn chorus is a really amazing thing to experience. The nesting birds singing make it feel magical and of course dawn is the best time of the day to experience this. Remember that the mornings can still be chilly, so be sure to wrap up in suitable clothing like these Irish mens sweaters. To identify different birds from their song, you can use an app to help you.
Plants and Flowers – In May, one of the most stunningly beautiful sights that you might be lucky enough to see are carpets of bluebells on the floor of deciduous woodland. As May turns to June, look out for the tall spires of Foxgloves, another much loved woodland plant.
Butterflies – As summer arrives, butterflies are abundant and on a sunny day have a look to see how many types you can spot. From the tiny and beautiful Holly Blue (the clue is in the name – look near holly bushes for this one!) to the striking peacock and many others.
