If you are looking to use Excel there are some functions that you need to be aware of in order to get the most out of the applications capabilities:
- Pivot Tables – although this is an advanced feature of the application it is an incredibly important one as it allows for complex information to be present in an easy to understand format that allows for reporting on data and tabulation of the information.
- Sums – you can easily add up the figures in any given row or column as well as creating more detailed sums to give you the results that you are looking for.
- Rounding – it is possible to alter the way in which the numbers that you enter into the spreadsheet are rounded. This can be incredibly important if you are using the spreadsheet in order to present financial data or results that are based on figures.
- Freezing rows or columns – when looking at large spreadsheets this function is a life saver as it allows you to freeze the header rows and columns to allow you to scroll through the pages of data in front of you whilst still being able to understand what each column and row represents.
