Sonic Frontiers has released this year and are a game that combines the best elements of classic games like Tetris and Columns. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about getting started with Sonic Frontiers including how to play it on your Nintendo Switch.

ToggleYou can play Sonic Frontiers on your Nintendo Switch using the Joy-Cons or Pro Controller. You can also play it on your PC or Mac via Steam.
Sonic Frontiers features a ton of sprites and sounds. Sprites are the characters, backgrounds and objects you see on screen. They range from things like animals to buildings and even clouds in the sky! The sounds are what you hear when playing the game – these are music, sound effects (like talking), as well as voices of characters in the game.
Sonic Frontiers is a 2D platformer adventure game. The goal of the game is to collect rings, find the chaos emeralds, and complete the game. If you beat Sonic Frontiers, you’ll earn an ending based on your performance in each area—the endings range from “Superb” to “Awful.”
The spin dash is your bread and butter. It’s what you’ll be using to move around most of the time, and it will also help you kill enemies. Just press the jump button twice in rapid succession to initiate a spin dash. The longer you hold down jump before releasing it, the longer your character will spin into whatever direction he was facing when he started charging. However, if there’s an enemy right beside him when he releases his charge attack (as opposed to farther away), then Sonic will automatically perform an Homing Attack against that enemy instead!
If there are no enemies nearby when you release your Spin Dash, but there are badniks somewhere nearby, then Sonic will automatically perform an Homing Attack against those badniks instead! In other words: sometimes when you release your Spin Dash during gameplay there won’t actually be anything around at all besides empty air; however if there happens not to be any enemies nearby either then don’t worry because Sonic still has some tricks up his sleeve…
In this case, Sonic will automatically perform an Homing Attack instead of just stopping dead in his tracks. Homing Attacks are extremely helpful for killing enemies much faster than normal; however you should note that they can only be used if there’s nothing else around besides the badnik that you want to kill. You won’t be able to use them if there are other enemies or items nearby at all!
The game’s main characters are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. The other characters will be unlocked as you progress through the levels. You can play with up to three friends in multiplayer mode.
The levels are divided into 4 zones, each named after a color. The first zone is Green Hill Zone, followed by Marble Zone, Spring Yard Zone and Star Light Zone. Each zone has four acts that make up a world, with 3 acts in each world (except for the last world). There are also two special stages hidden within every level which can be unlocked using a secret code at the end of each level’s boss fight.
The badniks are enemies that attack you as you play through the game. They come in different sizes and shapes but they all move along preset paths without variation, so memorizing their movement patterns makes them easy to avoid or destroy if necessary.
There are only four bosses throughout all 8 levels: Eggman Nega (Green Hill), Eggman Metal Sonic (Marble), Metal Knuckles (Spring Yard) and Chaos 6-Prisoner Xtreme (Star Light). The amount of time it takes for these battles varies depending on difficulty level chosen at start of game
and the player’s skill. The bosses do not respawn once they are defeated, meaning you can complete all 8 levels without additional fighting (unless you want to unlock special stages).
Sonic Frontiers is not a game for everyone, but those who love it will find joy in its simplicity and rhythm. It’s a perfect way to unwind at the end of the day or start one off on the right foot. The game itself is easy enough for beginners to get into while still having enough depth and challenge for more experienced players who want more than just an endless runner game experience.
